Atheism To Islam
Dr. Harish Kumar – A Journey from Atheism to Islam
After earning a PhD in Physics, I secured a lecturer position at a prestigious university in India. Even before that, I was disillusioned with Hinduism. In 1986, while studying in London, I was deeply influenced by Stephen Hawking’s lectures and books, which led me to deny the very existence of God. I became such a staunch atheist that I engaged in intense debates with leading scholars of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.
Even Dr. Zakir Naik could not convince me.
Dr. Harish recalls: “On a holiday morning in 2005, our regular vegetable vendor rang the doorbell. We had been buying from him for 20 years. That day, I invited him for tea, which he accepted. As usual, I began discussing the existence of God. After 30 minutes of conversation, I realized he was a simple, devout Muslim who prayed five times a day. He was also incredibly honest and fair in his dealings, always selling at reasonable prices. But before leaving, he said something that changed my life forever.”
He said: “Doctor, you yourself mentioned that for the past 6,000 to 10,000 years, prophets have been speaking about one God, Heaven, and Hell. And science has no answer for what happens after death. So, there are only two possibilities:
- God does not exist.
- God exists.
If God does not exist, then after death, both of us will be equal. But if God does exist, then you will be held accountable. Now, tell me, who stands to gain in both scenarios? You decide for yourself.”*
“Wouldn’t it be wiser to believe in God and follow His guidance? After all, the Qur’an only directs people towards the straight path.”
Dr. Harish reflects: “I spent my life teaching probability, yet I never considered this probability. In both cases, believing in God was the winning choice.”
This thought led me to explore which divine religion was the truth. Since I already had extensive knowledge of religions, I began my research. When I heard in a lecture by Dr. Zakir Naik that the Qur’an has remained unchanged, letter by letter, for 1,400 years, I sought verification from a Christian missionary institute in England. To my surprise, they confirmed it.
Alhamdulillah! It has now been 15 years since my entire family embraced Islam. I moved to Kerala to deepen my Islamic studies. My three daughters are Hafidh of the Qur’an. Allah has completely transformed my life.
But I never met that vegetable vendor, Abdul Ahad, again. However, after accepting Islam, I changed my name to Abdul Ahad, in honour of the sincere Muslim who led me to the truth.
— What if it is discovered after death that Allah does not exist?
Harish Kumar. After his PhD in Physics, he was posted as a lecturer in a leading university in India. He already hated Hinduism. In 1986, while studying in London, he was introduced to Stephen Hawking’s lectures and books that he became a denier of God. And such a denier that he would have a full-fledged debate with great Muslim, Christian and Jewish scholars. Even Dr. Zakir Naik could not convince me.
The doctor says that one morning on a holiday in 2005, a Muslim vegetable seller came to the market. We had been buying vegetables from him for the past 20 years. That day, I offered him tea and he accepted. As usual, I started arguing with him about the existence of God or Allah. After a 30-minute conversation, it became clear that he was a simple Muslim. He prays 5 times a day. Yes, he was very frank and honest in dealing. He used to sell at a reasonable price. Finally, while walking, he said something that changed my life. What was that: - Dr. Ji! You yourself said that for about 6000 to 10000 years, the stories of prophets have been going on in human history and everyone talks about one Allah, and heaven and hell. And science cannot answer the conditions after death. So now there are only 2 possibilities; 1… Allah does not exist 2… Allah exists If Allah does not exist then we both will be equal after death. But if Allah does exist going forward then you will be caught again. Who benefits in both cases. Decide for yourself. Therefore, it is better to believe in Allah and follow His words. His Quran tells man to walk on the straight path.
.. .. I gave lectures on Probability all my life. But after he left, I thought that I had never paid attention to this Probability. That in both cases the one who believes in Allah is in the advantage. Long story short, after this thought, I thought which heavenly religion is better. I already had enough knowledge of religions. In a lecture by Dr. Zakir Naik, I heard that the entire Quran has been the same letter by letter for 1400 years, so I inquired about its truth from the Christian missionary organization in England. So everyone confirmed this. Alhamdulillah, today it has been 15 years since I and my entire family became Muslims. I shifted to Kerala for Islamic teachings. My 3 daughters are Hafiz Quran. And Allah the Almighty changed my life. But I could not meet this vegetable Abdul Ahad again. But after accepting Islam, I also changed my name to Abdul Ahad. Because he was a true Muslim-
