Our Wealth. A Beautiful Means To Prepare For Akherah
I’d like to share a business deal that is profitable 100% of the time.
When you go into business with people one of 3 things can happen: you can lose money, break even or make money.
When you do business with Allah (i.e. give for His sake) you cannot lose.
“Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He will multiply it for him and he will have a noble reward?” – 57:11
Not only will it be increased but being charitable also acts as means of purification. In Surat Al-Layl we are reminded to be generous and not expect anything in return from the person we helped. We do it to seek the pleasure of our Lord.
who donate ˹from/some of˺ their wealth only to purify themselves;
not in return for someone’s favours;
but seeking the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High.
– 92:18-20
In Arabic we have a proverb: افعل الخير وارميه في البحر ‘Do good, and then throw it into the sea’ In other words, don’t expect anything in exchange for your good actions.
Good actions aren’t necessarily monetary. Do not underestimate the value of any good action and its weight on your scale. Feeding a stray cat, putting a smile on a child’s face and helping an elderly person cross the road may seem small but these may hold more value than all the money you’ve given in charity.
The beauty of our religion is that actions are measured by the quality of giving rather than the quantity. Not only that, but you can also be rewarded just for thinking of wanting to do something good.
In Surah Al-Qari’ah we are reminded that mountains on the day of judgement will be like wool. Mountains are the heaviest material thing on earth. On the day of judgement, the things that seemed to be heavy and hold value (like all your material possessions) will become like wool (i.e. insignificant) and your deeds will be what are significant and hold true value.
