02. The Oneness Of Allah

**Excerpt from Yusuf Kandhlawi (rah)’s speeches

Hadhratji Maulana Yusuf (RA)
Friday 26th March 1965 [one week before his demise]

Allah has given us the wealth of effort of deen. We make an effort on ourselves to make ourselves valuable. Our rank in paradise is dependent on our inner value.

The shape of tangible things is built externally. The shape of yaqeen & sifat is built internally. What are we expending our efforts on: the internal or the external?

The external, man-made houses, cars etc don’t even move with us when we leave our country but our yaqeen & sifat will move with us in this world & the hereafter.

It is important therefore that we build within us - the correct yaqeen & sifat.
For this we have the Masaajids.

In this life the tongue’s a munafiq. At times, it will make declarations opposing that which is in the heart, but in the grave & on day of judgement Allah will remove the tongue’s ability to contradict the heart.

This is why, on that day a strong Hafiz will only be able to recite that portion of Qur’an upon which he acted & his rank in paradise will be determined according to his a’amal, not his memory.

Listen & learn about the greatness of Allah from Qur’an & Hadith.
Initial Qur’anic revelations were about the greatness of Allah.

We have to make effort to instil the greatness of Allah in the heart.
Effort begins immediately; change occurs gradually.

Make Muhammad (SAW) our leader. He is our real role model.

**Our belief in the oneness of Allah is the foundation of piety (taqwa).

**“Piety is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west..” (2:177)

Its not that one has ‘piety’ that you turn here or there for prayer. To summarize, just praying is not piety. Then what is piety?

First one’s beliefs have to be correct. What is most important? That the belief be corrected!

**“…but [true] piety is [in] one who believes in Allah,” (2:177)

What does this mean? One has No Hope / turns away from wealth, possessions, lands, houses, properties, earth, sky, moon, sun, human beings, one’s own self.

One purges their conviction, reliance from everything.

And place their conviction and reliance on only one Allah.

We say Allah does everything. But we are restricted to avenues and means of this world.

This means we have not understood Allah’s transcendence.

Allah is independent from all means!

Everything other than Allah is powerless. The means are innately powerless. They are not what sustain us. They are not what will give us success. Calamities are not due to means. Allah can harm someone without the means. Allah can harm someone without any intermediary.

Allah is the ultimate doer!

This belief in the oneness of Allah is the foundation of piety (taqwa).
